Pasos Milagrosos (Miraculous Steps) is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization licensed by the Mexican government. It was founded by Paul and Elaine Cooper in February of 2007.

Some might say that Pasos offers equine therapy free of charge to children with a variety of disabilities in the Lake Chapala area of southwestern Mexico, and that pretty much sums it up. However, that is just the beginning of the story! Underlying that description are real faces...entire families, each with their own story to tell.

I Saw A Child
By John Anthony Davies

I saw a child who couldn't walk,
Sit on a horse, laugh and talk.
Then ride it through a field of daisies
And yet he could not walk unaided.
I saw a child, no legs below,
Sit on a horse, and make it go
Through woods of green
And places he had never been
To sit and stare,
Except from a chair.
I saw a child who could only crawl
Mount a horse and sit up tall
Put it through degrees of paces
And laugh at the wonder in our faces
I saw a child born into strife,
Take up and hold the reins of life
And that same child was heard to say,
Thank God for showing me the way
.

Equine therapy is a physician-prescribed treatment strategy that is obtaining astounding results. It utilizes the body heat and the rhythmic, repetitive movement of the horse. These characteristics improve muscle tone, balance, posture, coordination, strength, flexibility and cognitive skills.

Our mission is to improve the physical, psychological and social well-being of handicapped children through the interaction of a therapeutic team consisting of a horse, an instructor, and dedicated volunteers.
